Admit it – you love gadgets. The minute a new one is released, you simply must have it. Whether it is the latest kitchen appliance or a computer gadget, for some reason we always need the new and improved version. If you are considering buying a gadget for your computer, you should keep a couple of things in mind.
For the purposing of explaining this, we will use eBook readers, gadgets that are growing in popularity every day. The concept isn’t new, in fact, it has been around for quite some time. What is new is the technology used to build them. A couple of years ago, Amazon developed the Kindle. Advertised as the next generation of eBook readers, it quickly caught the eye of gadget lovers ever where. The technology was sound, the concept above par. The only problem was the price tag. Amazon’s Kindle cost hundreds of dollars. Now flash forward five years, there are multiple companies producing eBook readers. Today, you can buy a reader that is ever bit as powerful as the Kindle, has some nice additional features, and costs far less.
What is the lesson here? Sometimes ‘new’ simply means expensive. In the world of computer gadgets (the tablet computer is another great example), the first generation of a new gadget is always expensive and often full of glitches. Instead of jumping on the band wagon the first day, gadget lovers may find it more helpful to wait a few months and see what changes have occurred. You will likely get the same gadget for a lower price.
